Back to the Future: The Past, Present, and Future of Jungian Analytical Play Therapy

This workshop will present the underlying theory and model of Jungian Analytical Play Therapy (JAPT) through an exploration of its historical foundations, core principles, and therapeutic applications.
Participants will gain an understanding of Jungian concepts such as archetypes, the collective unconscious, and symbolic play as they relate to play therapy. The presentation will integrate lecture, case examples, and experiential activities to illustrate how JAPT fosters emotional growth, insight, and transformation.
Attendees will also learn how to apply JAPT techniques in clinical practice, ensuring a hands-on approach to
understanding and implementing this integrative model in diverse therapeutic settings.
1. Participants will be able to identify and define key terminology and concepts in Jungian Analytical Play Therapy, including archetypes, the collective unconscious, individuation, and symbolic play.
2. Participants will be able to explain the application of these Jungian Analytical Play Therapy concepts in clinical practice.
3. Participants will be able to articulate the historical development of Jungian Analytical Play Therapy (JAPT), including its foundational theories and key contributors.

Child-Centered Play Therapy in the Hundred Acre Woods

Journey into the Hundred Acre Woods as we revisit the timeless foundations of Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) with insights from Winnie the Pooh along the way!
This playful two- hour training provides a comprehensive review of the history, theoretical foundations, and enduring impact of Virginia Axline's child-centered approach. Participants will explore the historical context that gave rise to CCPT, examine its core assumptions about children, play, and the therapeutic relationship, and discover how these principles continue to shape contemporary play therapy practice.
Through research, case examples, discussion, and clinical application, attendees will examine the strengths, limitations, and ongoing relevance of CCPT while reflecting on its influence across the field of play therapy. Whether you are new to child- centered play therapy or seeking to refresh your theoretical foundation, this training will deepen your understanding of the approach and strengthen your ability to translate its core principles into meaningful clinical practice.
Second Session Learning Objectives
1. Describe the historical development and foundational principles of Child-Centered Play Therapy.
2. Identify the core concepts of Child-Centered Play Therapy and explain how they inform the therapeutic relationship and clinical decision-making.
3. Apply three Child-Centered Play Therapy skills to clinical practice through case examples and discussion of contemporary applications.

Continuing Education Credits: Following successful completion of a post-test with a score of at least 80%, this training will provide:
• 4 NBCC Contact CE Hours if you attend live, and 4 NBCC Non-Contact CE Hours if you attend by recording.
• 4 APT Non-Contact CE Hours. The Association for Play Therapy (APT) classifies both live and recorded webinars as non-contact continuing education, and participants may apply these hours toward RPT™ credentialing requirements.

Jared Andes, LCSW, RPT-S
Jared Andes is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor, and Vice President of the Utah Association for Play Therapy. He is a graduate of the Play Therapy Leadership Academy and serves as the Clinical Editor of the Play TherapyTM Magazine. Jared is the owner of Full Spectrum Counseling, where he works with children, teens, and families navigating anxiety, depression, autism, and selective mutism.
He integrates Jungian Analytical Play Therapy to support healing, symbolic expression, and self-discovery. A
passionate presenter and advocate, Jared is dedicated to promoting neurodiversity-affirming, play-based approaches that foster connection, growth, and emotional well-being.
